UW-Madison Reduced Gravity Team

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's ZeroG Team participates in
NASA's Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program. In this
program, students from across the nation design experiments to be
performed in a microgravity environment. The student teams write and
submit proposals to NASA, and selected teams are given the
opportuntity to conduct their experiment on board NASA's C-9B
Weightless Wonder. This plane can achieve microgravity (Zero-G) by
flying a parabolic path, which is the path taken by a free falling object.
When the plane goes over the top of the parabola, it is in a free-fall and
passengers inside experience about 23 seconds of microgravity. The
plane flies approximately 30 parabolas so students can run many trials
of their experiment.

UW-Madison Rocket Competition

The Lastest In Rocket Competition
Rocket Competition Pictures
The Student Rocket Design Competition is an opportunity for students to design
and construct large, high-powered rockets with no prior experience necessary. These
rockets will be launched at a competition in the spring of 2012 from Bong Recreational
Area. The competition will also include design analysis, oral presentation, and assessment
of data results, scored by professional engineers from both academia and industry. The
parameters and goals change annually, so check for more updates. Up to ten teams will be
selected to take part in this competition. To qualify for the competition, interested teams of two to five
students will be required to submit a Notice of Intent to compete, in which they name their team members and
committed faculty mentor. Teams can also parterner with an industry mentor, but this is not required. The WSGC will fund construction for participating teams with budgets of up to $1000 each, and will also provide teams with specific hardware.. A first, second and third prize* ($5000, $2500, $1000 respectively) will be awarded to teams with the highest scores. Additionally, there will be a seperate $2000 prize for first place among teams wishing to compete as "non-engineering" teams.

If interested please contact aiaa@cae.wisc.edu. We will be having an informational meeting when the competition parameters are announced. We can set you up with other interested members on a team. Remember, there is no previous experience required.
